The present building was constructed from 1771-1773 in line with the architectural plans of Paul Mungenast of Echternach, based on the model of the old collegiate church of St. Paulinus in Trier.
The residents submitted a request to the authorities, and in October 1721 the chapel was built in honour of Saints Cosmas and Damian and Saint Hilarius. Over the centuries, the chapel has been rebuilt several times.
St Willibrord’s Basilica, whose present form dates from the 11th and 13th centuries, was severely damaged during the Battle of the Ardennes and was partially rebuilt in the Neo-Romanesque style.
